Reminder normally come or happen to us when we experience something that trigger our memory. These reminders either to warn us to avoid something bad may be happened to us in the future, or in order for us to not miss good opportunity we probably deserve to.
Other side of the reality of our life, many times we've been stumbled in some problems before we realize and pay attention. This is not good stuff.
It is not my intention to write this article, however I was driven to share this good reminder from Jesus to Martha.
Martha, Martha, “the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42.
I’ve reading these verses many times repeatedly and never have my attention driven by these verses before.
This morning, in my daily routine of ritual prayer and worship, I've red my Bible from Luke chapter 10. After reading, I just closed my Bible right away. (My Bible is in Indonesian)
Before closing my eyes to end this morning’s prayer, these two verses 41 & 42 keep rehearsing in my mind saying: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things while Mary was sitting at my feet listening to what I was saying."
Because I was praying to ask Jesus to help me with developing my website with ideal content, I've got the impression that this is a good content to share in my website.
I did not close my eyes to end this routine, but then opened my e-Bible and looking for the NIV English version of this verses and started writing regarding these two verses of what God’s speaking in my heart and my mind.
People are too busy right now doing what they think is the best for them. They are like Martha, worry and upset of many things they think they know the best for them without seeking Lord’s guidance like Mary kept listening to what Jesus was saying.
Martha did not know what Jesus was saying, because she was too busy paying attention to useless activities while ignoring the presence of the precious Lord Jesus in her house.
She was supposed not to worry and upset of anything if she came to Jesus, set down and listen to Him. Not like Mary who knew the best thing to do and that she was listening to Jesus.
Why Jesus reminded Martha that she was worried and upset of many things?
In Luke 12:25 NIV, Jesus said: “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”
Mary could have known about this verse herself and probably that was one of the many reasons why Mary kept listening to Jesus. She did not want to worry and upset of anything and that was why she kept listening to Jesus.
Because Mary kept listening to Jesus, she could feel the true love of Jesus, she had peaceful heart and mind, she kept thanking Jesus for forgiving her sins, she had hope in Jesus, she could talk directly to Jesus at the time (or in prayer for us), and she became a new born person in Jesus Christ her Savior.
I myself realized my brain condition when too much time spending updating and developing my website, I became so tired mentally because of this type of activities.
As a result, I need more time to cooling down my mind by listening to worship songs as a precondition to have a good sleep afterwards.
Many times, even though I’ve done a precondition before sleep properly (by cooling down my mind from heavy burdens, by listening to music or reading book), I just couldn't sleep well.
Sometime, even when my head already stuck on my pillow, my eyes still kept staring for no reason. Then, when I’ve already fallen a sleep, bad dreams occupying my sleep, and then woke up tiredly.
Jesus knew, if Martha kept worrying and upsetting about anything, her life could had been mentally tired. Because: she could’ve had lack of sleep and had bed dreams during her sleep, could not feel Jesus’ love, no peaceful heart and mind and so forth.
And the most important thing was she wouldn’t had been able to transform or change from her old way of thinking, which caused worry to her life, to a new mind-set taught by Jesus, which could bring her peace and joy to her life.
I’ve written this article in order to share the good practices to provide
you with simple ways of how you can solve your problems in a spiritual way.
Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I’m gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV.
Many times, I’ve found the solutions to my problems or challenges in my life. It is still happening until today, even by writing this article, is one of the ways how I found answers to my problems, in prayer way.
So, you are reading this article, it is not happened to be that you are here, but Jesus knows what answer you need for your problems. Whether you are Christian or not, knew Jesus or not, it is only your heart.
You can just say in your heart “Jesus, I need your help. Come and help me. Speak to my heart so I can understand what to do to solve my problems. Thank you Jesus. Amen.”
I’ve showing the above brief prayer to you from my own life experiences. You don't need to trust me, but try it yourself when you are in the intersection of your own no way out.
